Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant – Psychiatry Department: The Department Employment Type: Full-Time Location: USA, Minnesota Reports To: Clinical Leadership --- 1. POSITION SUMMARY The Advanced Practice Provider delivers comprehensive psychiatric care across the lifespan (or designated population) in an outpatient behavioral health setting. The role includes independent clinical practice within scope, collaboration with psychiatrists and interdisciplinary team members, and participation in care coordination, treatment planning, and quality initiatives. The provider assesses, diagnoses, and manages mental health and substance use disorders while supporting patient‑centered, evidence‑based care. --- 2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including history, mental status examinations, and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, and co‑occurring substance use disorders.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring therapeutic response, side effects, and drug interactions.
  • Provide psychotherapy within scope, including brief interventions, supportive therapy, or evidence‑based modalities aligned with training.
  • Order and interpret laboratory studies, imaging, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients and families.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and care coordination activities.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain current knowledge of psychiatric best practices.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies or crises as required by the practice setting.
  • Serve as an inpatient psychiatric consultant during business hours when requested.

--- 3. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (PMHNP) or Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
  • National board certification in Psychiatry or relevant specialty.
  • DEA license with authority to prescribe controlled substances (Schedule II–V).
  • BLS certification upon start.

--- 4. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in outpatient, inpatient, emergency, or telepsychiatry settings.
  • Training in modalities such as CBT, DBT, or addiction medicine.
  • Bilingual skills.
  • Comfort with electronic health records.

  • Coordinate care with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, and other team members.
  • Support management of co‑occurring substance use disorders.
  • Provide consultation services for inpatient psychiatric needs during business hours.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case reviews.
  • Engage in quality improvement and practice optimization initiatives.

--- 8. WORK SETTING & ENVIRONMENT Work Environment: Outpatient; Clinic/Private Practice; Telemedicine; Hospital (consultative)

  • Collaborative behavioral health team including psychiatrists, therapists, and primary care partners.
  • Outpatient psychiatric clinic with optional virtual visit integration.
  • Industry‑standard EMR and modern diagnostic tools.

--- 9. SCHEDULE & CALL REQUIREMENTS

  • Full‑time schedule aligned with standard clinic hours, Monday–Friday.
  • Options for virtual visits and potential condensed work week.
  • No after‑hours or weekend call responsibilities.

--- 10. REPORTING STRUCTURE The position reports to Clinical Leadership and functions within a collaborative psychiatric care model, working closely with supervising psychiatrists and interdisciplinary team members. --- 11. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
