Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Dermatology

About the position Christie Clinic's department of Dermatology is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant at the University clinic on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7:30am-5:30pm, with no night or weekend requirements. This position may require the ability to travel to satellite clinics, as needed, to support the department. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants must provide diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative medicine under the supervision of the physician.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients.
  • Review patient records.
  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
  • Perform a complete and/or focused physical exam and record findings.
  • Establish presumptive diagnosis if needed.
  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Administer injections, immunizations and/or oral medications.
  • Suture wounds.
  • Prepare written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
  • Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention.
  • Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Instruct patient and family regarding medication and treatment instructions.
  • Provide patient education.
  • Assist physicians by recording patient progress notes, issuing diagnostic orders and transcribing orders.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
  • Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Perform skin shave and punch biopsies.
  • Perform Cryotherapy.
  • Diagnose and treat a variety of skin, hair and nail conditions.
  • Perform intralesional injections.
  • Perform surgeries to remove skin cancers, cysts and other skin lesions.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health care related field
  • Successful completion of a post basic Physician Assistants program
  • Successful completion of the Physician Assistants exam provided by the National Commission on the certification of Physician Assistants
  • Evidence of annual completion of health related courses and/or seminars with a certificate and/or CEU
  • Illinois State Licensure
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant
  • Illinois State controlled substance license
  • CPR Certification
