Role: Patient Engagement Coordinator Reports to: Associate Director, Study Operations Department: Clinical Research Team: Observational Science Level: 1 Location: Remote The Opportunity: Character Biosciences is a drug discovery and development company building world-class, deeply-phenotyped databases that integrate genomics with longitudinal clinical and imaging data. Our interdisciplinary team, comprising experts in clinical science, data science, statistical genetics, machine learning, and drug discovery, utilizes this platform to determine genetic drivers of disease progression, advance novel therapeutics, and define genetics-based patient stratification. Powered by our data platform, Character Bio is currently advancing two programs in Dry Age-related Macular Degeneration with additional programs in earlier stages of discovery research. Character Biosciences is seeking a dedicated Temporary Patient Engagement Coordinator to join our research team for a one-year assignment, with the potential for an extension. This role will work closely with the Senior Coordinator, Study Operations and the Associate Director, Study Operations and will primarily be responsible for engaging directly with patients to inform them about our clinical research study opportunities and managing the patient-informed consent processes. This is a Remote role Key Responsibilities: Serve as the initial point of contact for patients in our research programs, ensuring a high-quality patient experience from the first interaction. Conduct scheduled patient calls to review study materials, obtain informed consent, and answer questions, providing exceptional follow-through on all patient communications. Schedule and coordinate initial patient enrollment calls when needed. Maintain detailed, accurate, and thorough documentation of patient interactions, ensuring compliance with research protocols and internal processes. Engage with patients to understand their motivations and address any concerns or reservations about participating in research. Demonstrate strong technical skills and a fast-learning ability to quickly adapt to new systems and tools. Skills and Qualifications: 0-2 years of experience within clinical research operations Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a patient-friendly manner. Patience and empathy, especially when working with elderly populations and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all documentation. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, capable of managing multiple calls and tasks simultaneously. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. Tech-savvy with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new tools and systems. Preferred Qualifications: A college degree is preferred, with experience in clinical research or healthcare. Experience working with elderly and ethnically diverse populations is highly desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and Adobe. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate thoughtfully and effectively with patients. Experience adhering to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines to conduct clinical studies and following HIPAA regulations to protect Protected Health Information (PHI). Compensation & Benefits The hourly pay range for this full-time position is $26/hr - $30/hr + benefits This salary range represents the expected base compensation for this role and may vary based on factors including experience, skills, and level.
