As part of our commitment to operational excellence, arenaflex is expanding its remote workforce to include skilled professionals who can support the physical plant, raised‑floor equipment, and power‑and‑cooling systems that keep our data centers humming. This part‑time, remote role offers a unique blend of hands‑on technical responsibility and strategic impact, allowing you to contribute to a mission‑critical environment while enjoying the flexibility of a remote schedule.

Position Overview

The Part‑Time Remote Data Center Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of all plant equipment and raised‑floor infrastructure within arenaflex’s data center facilities. This includes power distribution, cooling systems, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) units, and the overall physical layout that supports our server racks and networking gear. You will work closely with senior engineers, vendors, and cross‑functional teams to ensure that the data center environment meets both performance and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Monitoring & Support: Serve as the primary point of contact for incidents related to power, cooling, and raised‑floor equipment, providing rapid diagnosis and resolution.
  • Vendor Coordination: Schedule, track, and oversee vendor maintenance activities, ensuring that service windows align with operational requirements and that all work is documented.
  • Best‑Practice Development: Design, document, and continuously improve data center best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for plant equipment.
  • Training & Knowledge Transfer: Identify training needs, develop instructional materials, and conduct workshops for both internal staff and external vendors.
  • Capacity Planning & Risk Management: Analyze reliability trends, identify potential failure points, and recommend mitigation strategies to reduce downtime risk.
  • Issue Resolution Support: Assist the issue resolution team with troubleshooting hardware, software, and environmental problems that intersect with power and cooling systems.
  • Project Participation: Contribute to development projects, ensuring that both functional and non‑functional requirements (e.g., redundancy, energy efficiency) are met.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Maintain up‑to‑date records of equipment configurations, maintenance logs, and compliance certifications (e.g., ISO, SOC).
  • On‑Call Rotation: Participate in an on‑call schedule to provide coverage for critical incidents outside of regular business hours.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience working with electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and UPS systems in a data‑center or mission‑critical environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of modern engineering design methodologies, including design, fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting of infrastructure components.
  • Strong grasp of industry standards such as ANSI/TIA‑942, Uptime Institute Tier standards, and relevant safety regulations.
  • Proven ability to stay current with emerging technologies through self‑directed learning and formal training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certifications such as CCA (Certified Computer Architect), BICSI Data Center Design, or similar.
  • Experience with data‑center automation tools (e.g., DCIM platforms) and scripting languages for monitoring and reporting.
  • Background in project management or participation in large‑scale infrastructure upgrade projects.
  • Familiarity with sustainability initiatives, such as PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) optimization and green energy integration.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Acumen: Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings; troubleshoot complex system interactions.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong problem‑solving skills, with a data‑driven approach to identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Communication: Clear, concise written and verbal communication for documenting incidents, creating SOPs, and delivering training sessions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in a remote environment while maintaining strong relationships with on‑site teams, vendors, and cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet deadlines in a part‑time schedule.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to embrace new technologies, evolving processes, and shifting business priorities.
