Work Environment

This role primarily operates in a remote setting, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home. However, you may be required to attend onsite training or education sessions once or twice per year to stay updated with the latest coding practices and compliance information. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive risk-based and random quality audits of medical coding practices to verify adherence to official coding guidelines and clinical documentation.
• Assess and validate data elements critical to Evaluation & Management (E&M) methodology, Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) assignment, and principal diagnosis/procedure accuracy.
• Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement through improved documentation and coding, establishing best practices for the team.
• Maintain meticulous records of audit results, highlighting areas for improvement and collaborating with coding teams to nurture a culture of learning.
• Stay abreast of coding regulatory changes and guidelines, ensuring compliance across all coding endeavors.

Patient Population / Client Focus As a Coding Analyst, your work will directly impact a diverse patient population. By ensuring accurate coding of hospital and clinic encounters, you contribute to effective patient care delivery and align billing practices with clinical services. This role is essential in providing quality healthcare while maximizing institutional revenue.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Health Care or Finance is preferred; an Associate degree is mandatory.
• You must possess at least one recognized coding certification from RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H, CCS-P, or CPC.
• CPMA or CICA certification is preferred, with a requirement to obtain it within six months of employment.
• A minimum of three years of experience in physician-based coding, with emphasis on E&M and surgical coding responsibilities, is required.
• Proficiency in utilizing multiple Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems to reconcile documentation with billing and reimbursement.

Preferred Experience

• A minimum of five years of hospital coding experience is highly desirable, with a proven track record of performance excellence.
• Experience in auditing practices for a minimum of three years is preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and payer-specific coding regulations is essential for success in this role.
• Demonstrable ability to swiftly identify coding non-conformities in ICD-10-CM, PCS, HCC, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
