Senior Data Scientist – Demand Forecasting, Pricing Analytics & Machine Learning (Part-Time, Remote)

Worldwide Salaried Open

About arenaflex

At arenaflex, we are reimagining the way the retail industry understands, anticipates, and responds to consumer demand. As a forward-thinking organization operating at the intersection of data science, artificial intelligence, and retail innovation, arenaflex partners with industry leaders to build intelligent forecasting systems that shape pricing strategies, inventory management, and customer experiences for millions of shoppers. Our team of passionate data scientists, engineers, and business strategists work collaboratively to push the boundaries of what is possible in demand forecasting and predictive analytics.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Data Scientist to join our Interest Forecasting and Quantitative Platform team on a part-time, remote basis. This role is ideal for a candidate who thrives in a flexible work environment while contributing meaningfully to large-scale, high-impact projects. If you are passionate about time series forecasting, machine learning, statistical modeling, and translating complex quantitative insights into tangible business outcomes, we invite you to explore this opportunity with arenaflex.

Position Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist within the Demand Forecasting group at arenaflex, you will design, develop, and deploy sophisticated mathematical and statistical models that power our retail demand estimation and pricing platforms. Your work will directly influence how arenaflex evaluates product demand, optimizes pricing strategies, and delivers value to both internal stakeholders and end customers. By leveraging your expertise in artificial intelligence algorithms, linear algebra, probability theory, optimization, and statistical inference, you will analyze large datasets, identify patterns and anomalies, build intuitive visualizations, and implement production-grade algorithmic solutions.

You will also play a key role in maintaining a robust, well-documented, and thoroughly tested codebase that adheres to industry best practices. This includes writing clean, maintainable code, developing unit tests, participating in code reviews, and contributing to our continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhance quantitative models for demand forecasting, pricing optimization, and inventory planning across thousands of retail products.
  • Build, train, validate, and deploy machine learning models, time series forecasting models, and optimization algorithms at scale within arenaflex's production environment.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for model improvement.
  • Create clear and compelling data visualizations to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product managers, and fellow data scientists to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Write production-quality code in one or more supported programming languages such as Python, R, Java, or Scala.
  • Follow software engineering best practices including version control, unit testing, modular code organization, and CI/CD principles.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate technical documentation for all models, algorithms, and codebases.
  • Lead the analysis, investigation, and resolution of complex issues within the software and broader platform infrastructure.
  • Drive innovation by researching and prototyping new modeling techniques, algorithms, and tools that improve platform efficiency and accuracy.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing at arenaflex.

Essential Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree (3-year program) or equivalent experience in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on professional experience building Time Series Forecasting models, predictive models, machine learning models, or optimization algorithms.
  • Strong quantitative skills with specific, demonstrable experience in Statistical Inference, Generalized Linear Models, and Markov Decision Processes.
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: Python, R, Java, or Scala.
  • Deep understanding of data structures, algorithm design, and computational complexity.
  • Proven ability to design experiments, test hypotheses, and measure algorithm performance rigorously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to partner effectively across teams and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or Machine Learning.
  • Experience working in retail, e-commerce, supply chain, or pricing analytics environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience with big data technologies including Spark, Hadoop, or similar distributed computing frameworks.
  • Knowledge of MLOps practices, model monitoring, and production model maintenance.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Publications or contributions to open-source projects in machine learning, forecasting, or optimization.

Skills and Competencies for Success

To excel in this role at arenaflex, you should possess a unique blend of analytical rigor, technical proficiency, and business acumen. You should be comfortable navigating ambiguity, breaking down complex problems into manageable components, and iterating quickly based on feedback and data. A passion for clean code, reproducible research, and continuous improvement is essential. Additionally, you should be adept at working in a remote, part-time capacity while maintaining strong communication and delivering high-quality results consistently.
